  • Historical Significance: “Old Glory” was the nickname of Captain William Driver’s personal flag, which he owned from 1824 until his death. After Driver’s flag became famous “Old Glory” has become a common nickname for all American Flags.
  • Today: Captain Driver’s original flag can currently be viewed at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.
